How do i change the format of a video?

theres a video i want to put on my phone is a AVI file and my mobile doesn't support that how do i change it to a MPG file?How do i change the format of a video?
AVS Video Converter is a good tool but it will put a water mark on your video when you change it to MPG until you buy it
