Any free online downloads where I can change the format for a video?

(I don't know what format it is now, but it opens up with Quick Time automatically) I need to crop the video in WMM, but it won't accept it.

Can you link me to a site with a free, safe download to change this?

Could you sort of explain how to do so, too?
