Changing video format?

i have this video which has been written onto a dvd as a VOB (i think...i have no idea actually)...when you open the dvd there is lk an audio file which is empty, and a video file, which has a few stuff and one of them when you open them is the video i want but without sound. however in the dvd player it works perfectly...how can i get it to work just normally as an avi file. i also want to upload it onto facebook.

Your DVD was in MPEG-2 the way all DVDs are. If this DVD was bought in a store, posting it anywhere can be grounds for copyright infringement by one or more of the copyright owners of the videos on the DVD.



If you have permission from the copyright owners of the video, or you are the copyright owner, you need to get a copy of the original video file - the one that was used to burn the DVD. That file (or a modification of it) is what you want to post online.
