How do I change the format of a video file from .MPEG-4 to .MOV without converting it manually?

I'm trying to edit a video with Windows Live Movie Maker, but with a FlipHD camera, the audio is sped up and it goes out of sync with the video. I looked it up myself and found the solution... But I have no idea how I'd do it. Here's what I found from

%26quot;Perhaps the most important feature of Windows Live Movie Maker is that it adds a number of video filetypes to its compatibility list. The list is extensive, and you can see it here. The most important of these, for Flip users, is that Windows Live Movie Maker is supposed to be able to edit .MP4 files. However, it turns out that the particular 'flavor' of Flip's .MP4 files is only kinda sorta compatible. They import fine, but when you play them, the audio is speeded up, and out of sync with the video.

Not to worry. Here's what to do:

1. Export the videos from FlipShare that you want to edit with Windows Live Movie Maker.

2. Rename each file, changing the extension %26quot;.MP4%26quot; to %26quot;.MOV%26quot;.

3. Import the files into Windows Live Movie Maker, which is also compatible with .MOV files. Audio and video are now in sync.%26quot;

This is what I was told to do, but renaming the file hasn't worked. Does anyone know how to do it? I feel really stupid for not understanding what it's telling me to do, but I have nowhere else to turn. Thanks.How do I change the format of a video file from .MPEG-4 to .MOV without converting it manually?
If you renamed the file it should work. Maybe you have known extensions hidden, so you renamed what looks like %26quot;movie%26quot; to %26quot;movie.mov%26quot;, but what you actually did was rename %26quot;movie.mp4%26quot; to %26quot;movie.mov.mp4%26quot;. Set Windows to not hide known file extensions, or learn how to rename files in a command prompt window.How do I change the format of a video file from .MPEG-4 to .MOV without converting it manually?
