How do you change the format of a movie from Quick Time to Windows?

My friends and I are trying to edit some movies we made and put them together using Windows Movie Maker. They're all on QuickTime, which doesn't allow the format these videos are in. Please help?How do you change the format of a movie from Quick Time to Windows?

First make sure you have all of the right codecs installed to convert the audio and video. Search free software sites for recommend codecs. Then Right click on the file, choose open with, and direct the file to be opened with windows media player and check the box that says open always with that program. Then close out of windows explorer and open the file in movie maker or explorer again. It should default to that program to open it.
